The Uralski Jazzband belongs to the
most important traditional bonds of the Russian Jazz
scene. The famous trumpet player Igor Burko founded
his band 20 years ago in Chelyabinsk, 2,000 km from
Moscou, with seven professional musicians, all graduates
of the Musical College. Under the musical genius OLEG
PLOTNICOV the band reached the pink of perfection, based
on harmonical discipline and improvisation talents.
The moment these Ural jazz musicians presented their
Russian-influenced jazz in the West, the enthusiasm
of the public mounted to the highest pitch. The band
has already toured in Sweden, Ireland, Belgium, the
Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Spain. The International
Jazz Information Centre Netherlands produced their first
CD at TIMELESS RECORDS label. On the repertoire list
of the band there are classical numbers by Louis Armstrong,
Duke Ellington, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Scott
Joplin and other jazz musicians and also the arrangements
of Russian folk songs and songs by Russian composers
adapted to Dixie style.
The Ural's All Stars playing is remarkable for the
mellow singing of Nayil Zagidullin's trombone combined
with the hot trumpet of Igor Burko, backed up by the
clarinet of Vyatcheslav Shaskov and the rhythm section
consisting of Oleg Plotnicov (piano), Sergey Uzkih (upright
electric bass), Sergey Noskov (banjo) and ever-smiling,
fun-loving Andrey Makasov on Sonor Drum-kit. The individuality
of each musician adds to the general sound of what is
called 'Dixieland' with its never-ending vivacity and
drive, sudden blue passages based on harmonical discipline
and richness of piano back-ups and breaks.
